Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
Well hello there my little fluffy bunny rabbit slippers. Welcome to the knitting
lounge on this cold, cold night. Me and Jimi have got the storage heaters on full
blast and I've got my hot water bottle, knitted the cover myself I did. Tonight
Hinckley would be playing Shepherd Albion in the Rolleston Charity Cup. Aaah
charity, you can't get enough of charity I say. Right, Jimi's done his homework
and apparently Shepherd Albion used to be a good, local non-league side, but were
now a shadow of their former selves. According to Jimi, Shepherd used to play at
the same level as Hinckley 10 years ago, but now struggle to play at the level
below. But as Harry Secombe says "you always need a shepherd for your flock."
Anyway to the game, Hinckley were playing their first team and looked to attack
from the start. Justin Jenkins had a couple of early chances, one saved by Richard
Keeling and the other cleared by the tackling of Adam Stevens. Adam Stevens was
in action a lot in the early stages as he also had to clear from Dave Sadler too.
The pressure eventually told after 20 mins, when the lovely young Neil Cartwright
crossed and Gavin Stone headed down into the path of Leon Jackson who scored from
15 yards out. Shepherd defended in numbers leaving only Tom Williams up front and
this invited Hinckley to attack. A Matt Lewis volley was inches wide, Leon Jackson
forced Keeling to save and Dave Sadler shot across the goal. Hinckley also had a
good penalty claim when the unpronouncable Simon Wczasek drove a bus all over
Justin Jenkins in the area. The ref played on but Wczasek came off worse from the
crude challenge as Jenkins must have had 'Bull Bars'. The shaggy haired Shepherd
defender had to be substituted as a result. With the half finishing Hinckley
should have had more than one goal, but nearly ended up on level terms. From a
break away lone striker Tom Williams found himself one on one with Chris Taylor,
but the keeper made a great point blank save to keep Hinckley leading at half
time.
Hinckley put the game beyond Shepherd within a minute of the second half. The
lovely young Neil Cartwright crossed a corner to the far post and Stuart Storer
played the ball across the face of goal. Andy Penny, Leon Jackson and Dave Sadler
were all queueing up for it. Much to the chargrin of Dave Sadler, Andy Penny tapped
the ball all 2 inches over the line. Shepherd then did something nobody expected,
they scored! Jamie Lenton and Andy Penny left the ball for each other and lone
striker Tom Williams picked the ball and tried a speculative shot form outside
the area, much to everyone's surprise it sailed over Chris Taylor and into the
net. Normal service was resumed though, as Hinckley kept attacking keeping the
Shepherd goal under pressure. That pressure finally told on Richard Keeling when
having called for a cross and with no apparent danger, the keeper fumbled the ball
straight into the path of Justin Jenkins who slotted the ball home. Wayne Dyer
then had a shot go across goal before he set up Hinckley's fourth. Dyer sprung
the Shepherd offside trap and took the ball round the keeper, from a tight angle
he shot at goal only to see it deflect off the post to the far side of the goal
into the path of the gracious Justin Jenkins, who powered the ball home for
Hinckley's winner. The final whistle went and Hinckley had won 4-1.
Jimi's opinion of the game: It went pretty much as expected. Hinckley were always
in charge and put in a professional, if uninspiring, performance. |
