the Hird Dimension:
and she's riding that stairlift to heaven Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football team.
There isn't that lovely, then.
Well darlings, Hednesford started very well and kept the pressure on for first 20 minutes, though stretched the Hinckley defence coped well. The game turned after 20 minutes. Hednesford should have gone 1 up, Tom Whittle gave away a free kick 8 yards out by handling a back pass. Darren Simkin's shot was then saved by Tommy's foot and almost straight away from another free kick Tommy Whittle made an superb acrobatic save to keep it 0-0. Then 5 minutes later a through ball was mopped up by Karl Brown but he dallied on the ball and let in the 'whippet like' Justin Jenkins who calmly lobbed it over the stranded and embarrassed Ryan Young in the Hednesford goal. Jamie Lenton had his lights on now and he whipped over a couple of crosses from the left which Young took no problem. Hednesford finished the half stronger and forced a number of corners and free kicks, but Simkin and Kevin Seabury wasted these opportunities. Leon Jackson had a headed chance that just skinned the cross bar, but the last real action of the half was a Neil Cartwright run down the right, he cut inside and shot low with Young getting down to save at the near post. Jimi thought Gavin Stone was having a good game as he seemed to mop up everything Hednesford threw at him. However he also thought the match could still go either way.
For the second half Hinckley started getting more width and bringing Neil Cartwright forward more often. This gave Chris Smith the freedom to switch from left to right and poor Karl Brown didn't know where to hide. Smith had Brown twisting this way and that and he was having a mare. It was only a matter of time before Hinckley got a second. Following a series of corners Cartwright put in another far post corner. Gavin Stone headed it back across goal and Chris Smith on the edge of the 6 yard box with his back to goal decided to bicycle kick the ball past the motionless Ryan Young. A couple of minutes later Hinckley made sure of the game. Cartwright and Smith again linked up well and played in Dave Crowley who took it right to the line and chipped the ball over Ryan Young heading for the goal. At the back post was Leon Jackson right on the line who made certain by heading it in. Jimi's Afro must've been in the way here though as Crowley was credited with the goal. Hednesford then brought on all their subs but it really was too late. Jamie Lenton had a great chance for a fourth when through on goal and his shot from a tight angle went over. However Hinckley did wrap up a 4-0 win in injury time when substitute Bradley Piercewright found himself the beneficiary of some very lazy defending and nutmegged Young on the line for Hinckley's fourth.
Oh my, what a game. Jimi and me were not expecting that and you can be sure all the girls in the knitting circle will be looking forward to tales of the next match.
