Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
Me and Jimi sat down on our cloud in anticipation of good, clean, fight, no, I
mean flowing, quality football match. As it turned out I was right the first
time. I'd been warned by Billy Wright not to expect too much as derby games can
be quite scrappy. I didn't understand at the time because Hinckley weren't playing
Derby they were playing Nuneaton. Jimi had been doing his research, in between
munchies, and he'd found out that Jamie Lenton played for Hinckley before moving
to Nuneaton and then back to Hinckley. Predictably then Jamie was booked after 5
minutes. Jimi turned to me and said he wouldn't last the full 90, but I saw what
he was smoking and I'm not sure if he meant Lenton or himself. The match was end
to end first half with both defences coping reasonably well. Terry Angus shaved
the post, and Shaun Murray came back well to stop Andy Corbett. Chris Smith was
cut out by Terry Angus, Justin Jenkins was debatably offside in a good position
and Leon Jackson's header was mopped up by Terry Angus, again. Stuart Whittaker
found himself free out on the left and he cut inside and shot into the hands of
Tommy Whittle. With the half drawing to a close I'm afraid I dropped a few stitches
and had to start the row all over again. Shaun Murray chipped a ball over the
top of the Nuneaton back line and Justin Jenkins placed his header towards the
top right corner. Darren Acton stood on his tippy toes and just managed to finger
tip the ball away for a corner. Half time score 0-0 and rightly so. Jimi thought
that Hinckley had coped with most of what Nuneaton had thrown at them, but were
struggling to get forward often because they had packed the midfield.
The second half started with Nuneaton 'upping' the pace. Gez Murphy ran clear
and put his shot wide. Then Leon Jackson also shot wide. Now began the battle
between Stuart Storer and Gez Murphy. Murphy received the ball on the left and
Storer went through him, won the ball on the edge of the area and walked it out
of defence as the terraces howled for a penalty. Storer was also on hand to mop
up Andy Corbett as Nuneaton began to get a better grip on the game. Brian McGorry
had an excellent chance to open the scoring for Nuneaton. Around the 6 yard box
he shot straight at Tommy Whittle who then bravely saved the follow up. It wouldn't
matter though as Nuneaton soon went 1-0 up moments later. After 75 minutes Mickey
Love found Brian Quailey 10 yards out with his back to goal, in one move he turned
and drilled the ball home. It should have been 2 immediately. Hinckley pushed
forward looking to get back in it from the kick off, Gez Murphy found himself on
a break away with only Stuart Storer for company. Storer tackled him and this time
the ref said it was a penalty. Jimi said to me he always likes to laugh at penalty
takers that try and be all 'flash harry' then shank it one. Gez Murphy did his
best 'Jermaine Jenas' impression by taking a little dink in his run up then
'bottomed' it onto the crossbar. In his panic to amend for his embarrassment he
headed his own rebound, which is apparently not allowed. Billy Wright, again,
leaning over my shoulder with running commentary. Hinckley didn't learn from this
and still threw everything forward and it was not a surprise when they were caught
on the break by Gez Murphy, who calmly slotted past Tommy for Nuneaton's second
goal.
Full time Nuneaton 2 - 0 Hinckley
Well the first time me and Jimi have seen Hinckley beat this season, but Jimi
was impressed with the way Hinckley's defence coped for most of the game and it
was really a very good goal by Quailey and then being caught out on the break
which was the difference between the two sides. |
