Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
Well, well, well my dears, it's that lovely old man Steve Claridge. Jimi had
been doing his research again. Apparently he used to play for some team called
Leicester City and scored a goal at some kind of play off thingy. Jimi seemed
to think it was important, he told me that many people in Hinckley looked up to
him as some kind of hero. He's no Harry Secombe though, is he? Today though we
all wanted him to leave without the glory. So to the game.
Jimi had warned me Hinckley had 5 players out with injuries and they would be
hanging on for most of the game. So it was, the whole of the first half was a
scrappy and very stop start. Hinckley's main threats had come from down the
right with Neil Cartwright, ooh bless the young man, overlapping and crossing
for headed chances for first Leon Jackson and second Wayne Dyer, but both
chances were over the bar. For Weymouth Scott Partridge had a couple of chances
as he found space on the left, but again they came to nothing. Hinckley had the
best chance of the first half right near half time, Simon Tucker used one of
his 'pincers' to knock on the ball which Jason Mathews saved and Leon Jackson
immediately followed up, which was also bravely saved by Mathews. Straight after
a long Neil Cartwright throw in was volleyed just over by Jamie Lenton. The half
time score was 0-0. Jimi's impression was that no side was better than the other
and the game had got bogged down in the midfield.
The second half started much like the first. The action only really started after
Steve Claridge gave Weymouth the lead. Scott Partridge sucked everybody towards
the ball at Hinckley's near post and he calmly played the ball across goal for
the unmarked Claridge to tap home from 1 inch out. This spurred Hinckley on but
with their 3 main strikers injured it was only going to be a penalty that got
them back in it. So I had a word with Harry Secombe, as he's got a lot of weight
up here, and he had a word with St Peter, and he had a word with Jesus who said
he'd see what he could do. Cue Simon Browne inexplicabley ripping Justin Jenkins
shirt from his back when in the area with only 5 minutes to go. Jamie Lenton
stepped up and scored from the penalty spot to equalise. That should've been
that but into injury time added on Hinckley had a number of chances to clear
the ball from their area but it somehow still got to Scott Partridge who rifled
home with the last kick of the game to give Weymouth their first ever win over
Hinckley United.
Jimi's view was that similar to the Nuneaton game Hinckley had coped with what
was thrown at them in midfield and defence, but the lack of forward pressure was
their downfall. |
