the Hird Dimension:
and she's riding that stairlift to heaven Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football team.
There isn't that lovely, then.
It was a quick return game against Worcester as we had only watched them last month at St George's Lane. Saint George was actually at the bingo that night but tonight he was joining me and Jimi in the knitting lounge for the game. Obviously he was on the side of the 'Dragons' which Harry Secombe thought was quite ironic, because not being on the side of the dragon was what got him canonized in the first place.
I believe I said then the game was not a classic and much the same it wasn't tonight. Jimi said it was a scrappy but honest contest. It started almost with a goal for Worcester when Chris Taylor missed a cross in the first minute and John Snape followed up from close in. That lovely young man Neil Cartwright deflected the ball and Stuart Storer cleared it off the line. Justin Jenkins was presented the ball, after a good passing move by Shaun Murray, but he couldn't keep his shot down. There wasn't much action then until towards half time. Jamie Lenton swung in a corner to the far post and Andy Penny's header went over from close range. Half time was 0-0 with Jimi's opinion being that both teams were a bit lacklustre and didn't seem very sharp in front of goal. With a bit of composure it could very well be 2-2.
The second half started with a quicker pace and Murray forced Worcester keeper McDonnell to make a save before Justin Jenkins put a headed chance wide. Worcester too had a good chance when Murray gifted David Foy possession, but the Worcester man hesitated and Murray recovered to block Foy's shot. It wasn't until the final 10 minutes that it began to be end to end football. Ooooh bless my soul, the lovely young Neil Cartwright had the best chance of game. Wayne Dyer made a run into the box going past a couple of defenders and squared the ball to Cartwright. In true defender style from about 6 yards out he blasted the ball high and wide of the goal. The ball then went straight down the other end where Stuart Storer and Chris Taylor combined to save from Mark Owen and then clear off the line once more from the Worcester youngster. The game finished 0-0.
Not a brilliant game, but both sides had good chances to win it. Jimi's impression was that Hinckley had one eye on the up coming game with Scarborough and perhaps were not 100 percent. There was plenty of fight in the midfield but both teams cancelled each other out really. A draw was a fair result in his opinion. Saint George on the other hand couldn't believe that Worcester had had 2 chances cleared off the line and still not got anything more than a point.
