Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
The knitting lounge was a buzz with excitement for this match. Crosby, Hope,
Hawtrey, John the Babtist, Lynott, Formby and all the other glory hunters had
turned out for this match. There wasn't an empty cosy chair in the place. Lucky
me and Jimi had got here early so we had our normal two seater at the front.
Jimi as usual had done his research, now it appears that Crawley are usually one
of those teams that are the cliched 'there or there about' type teams. Unusually
though, recently, they never seem to play well against Hinckley. Their current
run of 14 unbeaten games might have suggested today might be a better than average
result for them.
Crawley certainly started the better getting the ball forward quickley and
supporting well. Charlie MacDonald had 2 good chances to give them the lead.
First was a 20 yard curling shot that Chris Taylor did well to push wide for a
corner, and the second was a header which he directed straight at Taylor for an
easy save. It was against the run of play that Hinckley opened the scoring. That
lovely young Neil Cartrwright took a throw in to Dave Sadler. Before the Crawley
defence had time to adjust, Sadler had turned and played in Justin Jenkins,
unmarked, 15 yards out, who swept the ball past Craig Holloway. Crawley responded
straight away, but Ben Judge couldn't connect properly with a deep far post cross.
Hinckley increased their lead further after half an hour with a penalty. Justin
Jenkins was twisting and turning while Marc Pullen had two attempts at cutting
his ankles, before Judge finally finished the job in the penalty area. Jamie
definately had his 'lights on' for the penalty and placed it perfectly to the
left of Holloway. Tha last chance of the first half fell to Scott Voice. He had
replaced the injured Dave Sadler and his header from another glorious lovely
young Neil Cartwright cross was only inches wide. So the first half finished
Hinckley 2 - 0 Crawley.
The second hald saw Crawley have alot of the possession, but not really create
much with it. They couldn't break down the Hinckley defence and were reduced to
long deep crosses. As the half went on Hinckley began to get back more into the
game. With 15 minutes left Wayne Dyer found himself on the edge of the box after
a poor clearance, but his shot went over. Voice had a half chance cleared by
Holloway before Shaun Murray got a third goal for Hinckley. Murray got the ball
in midfield but as he ran towards goal, nobody from Crawley wanted to tackle him,
he still kept running and still no one tackled him. There was only one thing to
do. Jesus, stood at the back, shouted out "it's opened up for you." Murray must
have heard him because he unleashed an unstoppable shot that bypassed Holloway
into the bottom corner of the net. The match was gift wrapped right at the end
when Scott Voice added a fourth. The Crawley defence all of a sudden seemed to
be allergic to tackles and, like Murray, didn't try to stop Voice either. This
time Holloway made the save, unfortunately Jenkins caught the rebound and chipped
it back across goal for Scott Voice, still unmarked, to head home number four.
Final score: Hinckley 4 - 0 Crawley.
Jimi's match verdict: Whilst Crawley started well and had a lot of possession,
they weren't really allowed to create anything. They were closed down in midfield
and reduced to long balls into the corner or long deep crosses. Hinckley played
the ball down the wings or through the channels and the more Crawley ran out of
ideas of how to break down Hinckley's defence, the stronger Hinckley became in
attack. Regardless of the scoreline, Hinckley's attitude and they way they
applied themselves to the match means this is probably one of the best Hinckley
performances this season. |
