Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
OK then my little darlings, welcome back to the knitting lounge for this top of
the table clash with Weymouth. From up here in heaven I had a word with St Chris,
and he had his eye on the supporters coach for it's long trip south making sure
it arrived safely and in plenty of time. Earlier in the season me and Jimi watched
Weymouth steal a win from Hinckley in injury time, but since then both Hinckley
and Weymouth have gone from strength to strength. Jimi told me Hinckley had gone
6 games unbeaten since the Scarborough game and that Weymouth were also on a
similiar run of unbeaten games. Jimi was certain this match was going to be
'Outta sight, man', I think he said.
Oh no, right from the start it was bad news for Hinckley. Dave Sadler was out
through injury and St Chris will get a rocket from me. He was too busy watching
the supporters bus to notice Andy Penny and Wayne Dyer had both broken down on
the motorway. Luckily one of his Angels was doing their job and he got them on
the move in time to make kick off. Urged on by a 1500 crowd Weymouth pressed from
the off. Within the opening 10 minutes Shaun Murray had cleared a dangerous Lee
Philpott cross and a glaringly unmarked Lee Phillips had seen his header go wide.
Hinckley did put together some good moves too. Shaun Murray had a 20 yard shot
drift wide, and thankfully I was sitting in my 'honourary knitting lounge 10
years service' gold plated commode, as Justin Jenkins was clean through 1 on 1
with Jason Matthews but the Weymouth keeper pulled off a great save. 20 minutes
in and Weymouth grabbed the game by the neck. Old father time Steve Claridge
wheeled his chair down the right and his low cross was missed by Penny, probably
still trying to contact the RAC, and Lee Phillips simply tapped the ball in the
net. Hinckley responded with a Scott Voice volley that Matthews again saved.
Weymouth however pushed the game further away from Hinckley just before half time.
Phillpot put over another fine cross and again an unmarked Lee Phillips headed
home to give Weymouth a 2-0 half time advantage.
Jimi's first half impression: Weymouth had controlled the half only allowing
Hinckley to rush their passes and not let them settle at all. Weymouth in turn
had also managed to get round the back of the Hinckley defence on numerous
occasions and 2-0 was about right.
Hinckley came out a bit more determined in the second half. That lovely young
Neil Cartwright put in a corner which caused absolute mayhem, but was eventually
cleared. I had cleaned out the commode at half time, all that effort wasted now.
The lovely young Neil Cartwright was determined to make me white wash the commode.
He had another shot which was again well saved by Matthews, and then Scott Voice
saw his goal bound shot cleared off the line. Shaun Murray's long range effort was
parried away to safety and Justin Jenkins headed wide. Going into the last 10
minutes Wayne Dyer and Justin Jenkins again went close, but the final whistle
went with Hinckley camped in the Weymouth half unable to get anything out of the
game.
Jimi's overall thoughts: Weymouth had sat back a bit in the second half and
Hinckley had been unlucky with goal chances, however overall Weymouth had still
controlled much of the game and Hinckley had had to fight just to get possesion.
2-0 Weymouth was right on the day.
Only down to me to make sure St Christopher keeps his eye on the road and his
hand upon the wheel. Hold on, who let Morrison into the knitting lounge? |
