Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
Merry Christmas my little plum puddings, as you can imagine it's been quite busy
up here in heaven, with it being Jesus' birthday and everything. That Jesus he
likes to throw a party, and all the bigwigs were there Frank Sinatra, Alexander
the Great, Napoleon, Marty Feldman, Queen Victoria, Harry Secombe and Peter
Sellers. Even so the knitting lounge was quite full this morning for the big derby
game. Jimi informed me that Nuneaton hadn't played at Middlefield Lane since 1985.
They had played at Leicester Road in the league in the 90's but not at the 'Middy'.
Jimi's pre match thoughts were that the pitch was a bit heavy and both sides would
be giving 100% so a scrappy draw was on the cards.
Nuneaton showed first determined to take the game to Hinckley. Tommy Whittle had
to be quick early on to smother Leon Drysdale, then made an excellent save to
deny Michael Brown. Hinckley replied with the on-loan Kevin Larvin, the Leicester
City striker took the ball around the defence then from an acute angle tried to
curve it around Darren Acton. Acton got lucky as he dived the wrong way and the
ball clipped the outside of his foot and rebound to safety. Michael Love blasted
wide for Nuneaton before they took the lead at the end of the first half. Stuart
Whittaker crossed the ball and Andy Penny missed his header. poor Gavin Stone
knew nothing about it as the ball came off his head and into the path of Gez
Murphy. Murphy fired the ball past Whittle and Nuneaton finished the half with
a 1-0 lead.
Jimi's first half thoughts: Nuneaton had commanded most of the possession and only
some good work by Tommy Whittle and poor finishing by Nuneaton had kept the score
down. Hinckley had been reduced to break away attempts and hadn't managed to yet
put any decent moves together.
Hinckley were a changed team in the second half. They came out full of christmas
sherry trifle and a good christmas stuffing from manager Dean Thomas. It had the
desired effect. Jamie Lenton's curling shot was tipped over and Dave Crowley saw
his effort go over too. Then Chris Smith overhead kick was off target and a Shaun
Murray drive also went wide. Then Chris Smith had a penalty appeal turned down.
Having turned Terry Angus inside out the aged defender decided to stop Smith by
holding on to his shirt. Guy Stretton the referee was blind sided and Angus
escaped with no punishment for his professionalism. Ooooh, if I'd been alive I
would've had a heart attack, with 10 minutes left Shaun Murray had another shot
which he scuffed across the face of the goal. Justin Jenkins appeared from
nowhere at the far post only to miss a clear goal by inches. Still nice to know
my comode is still working. Hinckley eventually got what they deserved in the
final minute. The lovely young Neil Cartwright did well on the left to take the
ball to the line and cross to the feet of Chris Smith. Smith made no mistake from
two yards out and Hinckley were level. Despite seven minutes of injury time no
more action came as both teams seemed to have settled for the 1-1 draw.
Jimi's thoughts of the overall match: A draw in the end was right. Hinckley had
come back in the second half and taken the game to Nuneaton. The constant
pressure kept Nuneaton on the back foot and it was only a matter of time before
Hinckley got the goal. The penalty decision might have changed things, but overall
there wasn't much to seperate the two sides. |
