Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
Oooh what a chilly night for a football match. Fortunately up here in heaven we
have our own thermostat control, just one advantage of living with the all seeing,
all knowing supreme being, or Harry Secombe as I like to call him. Anyway the
knitting lounge was set for 'toasty' so I didn't need my extra thermals with my
support tights. Weston were the visitors tonight, and it had been a long time
since I'd been there. I seem to remember I did a 'Songs of Praise' from there
once. Very cold, so very cold. Anyway, Hinckley were still looking for their
first home win of 2004 and Jimi told me new signing John Burns would make his
debut tonight as manager Dean Thomas attempted to get the midfield more into
play.
Weston had the first chance of the match when John French found space on the
right and forced Tommy Whittle to make a great save. Then Hinckley went up the
other end and scored their first goal in 5 games. Stuart Storer went on a great
run from midfiled fighting his way past 2 defenders before playing in Matt Lewis.
He took the ball right to the byline and crossed low across goal for Chris Smith
at the far post to tap into the net. Weston were nearly gifted an equaliser after
a rare Storer slip let in Paul Hunt who missed so badly I had to check round the
knitting lounge to make sure jesus wasn't up to his meddling tricks again. Tony
Maleesa saved well from the lovely young Neil Cartwright, but then dropped the
ball at the feet of Matt Lewis who couldn't control it on the sticky surface.
Just before half time Weston had another good chance to level it up. John French
went down the right, cut in the area and had a shot. Tommy Whittle stood up well
and pushed the ball away for a corner.
Jimi's first half thought: hinckley had shaded the first half and deserved their
lead. They had been getting the ball wide, something which they'd not been doing
in recent matches, and Chris Smith and Matt Lewis were causing much trouble running
down the channels.
The second half was complete control from Hinckley. Debutant John Burns showed
what he is capable of when he ran from midfield past 2 defenders and shot straight
at Malessa. Then Chris Smith was through on goal but found the angle too tight
as he was forced wide by keeper and defender. A great move followed for Hinckley,
Matt Lewis went on a run to the byline, sucking in 3 defenders, and crossed to
the far post for Brad Piercewright to hammer the ball goalbound. Somehow Lewis
Hogg sliding along the line deflected the ball wide, I don't think he even knows
how. Then came the move of the night, in a series of 'one twos' Burns, Murray
and Lewis combined to play in the lovely young Neil Cartwright who's stinging
shot was again defelected away. Right on time Weston had a series of corners which
produced the sight of goal keeper Malessa charging up field in a last ditch attempt
for an equaliser. It didn't work.
Jimi's overall verdict: Hinckley had seriously taken control of this game and
will be seriously thinking when their luck will change in front of goal. They
had scored their first goal in 5 games but really it should have been 5 goals.
In the end though the points mean more than the goals. |
