Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
Well a hello there to all my perl stitchers, and welcome back to the knitting
lounge. Another freezing night as Cambridge come to Middlefield Lane. After the
disappointing defeat to Merthyr the team had a quick chance to make up for it.
An entertaining, open first half of football followed. Cambridge went close first
when Tommy Whittle misjudged a cross and was left high and dry, fortunately
Stuart Storer was on hand to clear, before a Lewis Bailie effort was cleared off
the line by Andy Penny. John Burns forced a save from long range, then a lovely
young Neil Cartwright cross, from a Jamie Lenton short corner, found Brad
Piercewright who's header was just over. Louis Riddle went close for Cambridge
with a curling shot, but then had a gifted chance to take the lead. Andy Penny
'clunked' Robbie Simpson in the area and a penalty was given. Riddle stepped up
and put his shot to the right, however Tommy Whittle dived the right way and
just managed to get a fingertip to the ball to push it onto the post to keep the
scores level at half time.
Jimi's first half thoughts: An open game with both sides creating good approach
play. Hicnkley's final ball had been a bit lacking, and Whittle had saved their
blushes with the penalty save.
The second half Hinckley changed it round a bit. Lenton was pushed further forward
and Dave Sadler was substituted onto the pitch. Sadler, almost immediatley, sent
Matt Lewis through on goal, only for Davies to gather his shot. Jamie Lenton
crossed for Leon Jackson, but Davies again gathered the ball under pressure.
Another Lenton cross was just missed by Dave Sadler, before he was guilty of
missing what can only be described as an 'absolute sitter'. The lovely young Neil
Cartwright crossed from the right and Leon Jackson headed it back across goal for
Sadler. From 5 yards out Dave Sadler managed to sky the ball over the bar. Then
straight away Cambridge took the ball down the other end and Tommy Whittle saved
bravely at the feet of Danny Bloomfield. Hinckley pushed everything forward
looking for a winner but efforts from Shaun Murray, Leon Jackson and the lovely
young Neil Cartwright came to nothing.
Jimi's overall verdict: yet again bad finishing has left Hinckley short of points.
The second half performance probably shaded the game for Hinckley but if it wasn't
for Whittle's penalty save all that approach play would have been for nothing. |
