Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
Hello again dearies and welcome to the knitting lounge for the first time this
February. Today's visitors to the Lane are Moor Green. Jimi tells me that having
had their usual bad start to the season, they were currently on an unbeaten run
for 17 odd games. Jimi said to me it was exactly what Hinckley didn't want when
they were still looking for their first home win of 2004, and would I like to
share a doobie. I didn't understand the second part so I just told him I'd stick
to my knitting.
The match started in an end to end fashion, Tommy Whittle pushed away an early
Dennis Bailey header, then held on to a Daire Doyle shot. At the other end the
lovely young Neil Cartwright whipped in a far post cross that was inches away
from Matt Lewis, and Leon Jackson's shot on the turn was unlucky to be deflected
wide. Then after half an hour Matt Lewis collected a Chris Smith cross right in
front of goal but somehow managed to let the ball slip away from him. Lewis then
looked to make up for his error, just before half time, as he skipped past a
couple of defenders but put the ball wide across the face of goal.
Jimi's first half thoughts: Moor Green had showed early but not taken their
chances, as the half went on Hinckley had come into it more and were creating
from wide but guilty of some dreadful finishing.
The second started the same for Hinckley. Leon Jackson just couldn't get enough
pace onto a cross as he stretched at the far post and Chris Smith did well wide
then rolled the ball across the face of goal only to see no one coming in. Brad
Piercewright then forced a great save from Adam Rachel after his shot swerved in
flight. Moor Green had not done much second half but were still dangerous on the
break. Peter Faulds was clear on goal but Tommy Whittle raced out of his area to
claim the ball at the feet of the Moor Green player. Ooooh, last minute drama and
contoversy. Shaun Murray had the ball inside the area and teed up his shot before
he was hauled down from behind. With huge appeals from players and crowd the
referee waved play on, ensuring that Moor Green kept their unbeaten run virgo
intacta.
Jimi's overall match verdict: Hinckley had certainly done enough to win the match
but a combination of bad finishing, bad luck and bad refereeing had kept the
scores level. Why the referee decided that Fifa no longer deemed the tackle from
behind as a punishable offence? Who knows? Another one of those chapters in the
big book of 'if only'. |
