Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on
you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and
Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for
Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we
thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football
team.
There isn't that lovely, then. |
Welcome again my little choirboys and girls. A fierce, chilly and howling wind
made conditions almost unbearable at pitch side, but still very 'toasty' up here
in the knitting lounge. Today we would see international football at Middlefield
Lane. Merthyr Tydfil were the visitors and they had made the long trek from
deepest darkest Wales. Ooh I love Wales, all those choirs and singing, 'Men of
Harlech' a particular favourite of mine. Harry Secombe often blasts out a chorus
to me, of an evening.
Merthyr certainly lost no time in conducting proceedings on the pitch. Within the
first 10 minutes Craig Steins had fired over the bar, and Jason Donovan (lovely
man, I especially liked him when he did 'Joseph and his Dreamcoat' so much better
than 'Too many Broken Hearts') missed badly when clear through. As in the previous
match Hinckley then went and took the lead. A pin point perfect free kick from
John Burns found the head of Leon Jackson who headed home from 6 yards. Another
John Burns free kick was pushed wide and the lovely young Neil Cartwright crossed
over for Matt Lewis who couldn't connect.
Jimi's first half thoughts: Hinckley had taken more of the possesion, but Merthyr
were struggling into the wind. Hinckley had created chances but again poor
finishing had kept the score down to only a one goal lead.
Second half Hinckley may well have just sat in the dressing room. Even though
they were now kicking into the wind they were completely devoid of any idea or
cohesion. Hinckley didn't have a shot on goal, other than one free kick, for all
of the second half. Merthyr closed us down and surged forward in waves. Only some
desperate defending from the lovely young Neil Cartwright and Stuart Storer kept
Hinckley in it. The inevitable happened from a free kick. Some 30 yards out Gary
Thorne stepped up and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner of the
net to give Merthyr their equaliser. Worse was to follow, Merthyr forced a series
of corners as Hinckley desperately held on, but in the 4th minute of time added
on, in a goal mouth melee, the ball fell again to Gary Thorne who won the match
for Merthyr with the last kick of the game.
Jimi's verdict: Hinckley got what they deserved. The wind could be used as an
excuse up to a point, but to not have a shot on goal from open play all second
half is woeful. They sat deeper and deeper, and even when Merthyr equalised they
never stirred or attempted to try something different to stop the rot. |
