Hinckley gain second win |
|
Hinckley United registered only their second friendly win, in a game away at Brackley
Town. Jon Stevenson gave Hinckley a half time lead with a lob from the edge of the
area before Owen Story scored an individual goal taking the ball past three defenders
before firing home early in the second half. Chris Nurse and Colin Marrison scored
in the last 15 minutes to round off the scoring. |

Hinckley have antidote for Adders fangs |
Atherstone Town were beaten 3-1 by Hinckley United at Sheepy Road as we continued
our pre season build up. Richard Sneekes again played in the midfield but there
were no other trialists until Liam Powell came on as a second half substitute.
Hinckley were a bit lacklustre in the first half and went behind to an Atherstone
penalty, but the equaliser came on the half hour mark through an own goal. Hinckley
had seemed to play within themselves for the first period, but definately stepped
up a gear for the second. Colin Marrison gave Hinckley the lead with an opportunist
goal when he pounced on a loose ball in the area and turned and shot past the keeper,
before lively substitute Curtis Smith made an immediate impact by crossing for Owen
Story to score a third from 12 yards out.
Hinckley starting line up: Bowles, Roma, Shilton, Lavery, Birch, Butler, Story, Sneekes, Murphy,
Marrison and Nurse.
Subs: Piercewright, Stevenson, Jackson, Curtis and Powell.

As expected the constant rain over the last couple of days has left the pitch very
waterlogged and friendly against Leamington Town has had to be cancelled. |

Foxes have the bite in front of record crowd |
|
A record crowd of 3079 for the Marston's Stadium saw a very strong Leicester City
side dominate and win the friendly match against Hinckley by a 3 -1 scoreline.
Leicester, including players such as Bruno N'Gotty, Shaun Newton and Radostin
Kishishev, were ahead early on when Jon Haynes curled a shot from the right edge
of the area into the far left hand corner of the goal and in off the post. You
may see claims somewhere that De Vries got the last touch, but then he would've
been miles offside, so Haynes goal it is. Despite Leicester doing most of the
attacking Hinckley equalised mid way through the first half when an inswinging
corner from Jon Stevenson found it's way to the back post and into the goal deflecting
off Alan Sheehan. It was only minutes though before Leicester were back infront.
A superb solo run from Iain Hume saw him go past the Hinckley defence, around Bowles
in goal and slot home from a tight angle to make it 2-1 to Leicester at half time.
The second half was disrupted by wholesale changes by both teams but notable for
two bits of action. First was Leicester's third goal, a 25 yard swerving strike
from James Wosolowski after the hour mark. Then second an excellent point blank
safe from Hinckley's substitute keeper Dave Clarke late on kept the final score
down to 1-3 to the Championship side. Almost both sides first team squads got a
run out at some point and I expect Hinckley's players were given a sterner test
than Leicester's players, but a good match overall, well contested and played in
the right spirit. |

... and so it starts all over again. |
|
Pre season began properly for Hinckley with our first friendly game away at Bedworth
United finishing in a 2-2 draw. In a rare day of sunshine this summer almost all
of the squad had a run out at some stage including the new signings Gez Murphy,
Brad Piercewright and Dominic Roma. Along with them were a number of trialists
Jon Stevenson (formerly with Tamworth), Aaron Stringfellow (formerly with Rugby),
and Greg Pearson (formerly with Rushden & Diamonds). The rest of the squad
compromised of Sean Bowles, Tom Birch, Chris Bradshaw, Tony Butler, Leon Jackson,
Alex Johnson, Richard Lavery, Colin Marrison, Chris Nurse, Sam Shilton and Owen
Story. Neil Cartwright was obviously half way up 'Scafell Pike' at the time, so could
be excused this match. It was your typical first friendly of the season type of game,
but a good run out for the team, with trialists Jon Stevenson and Aaron Stringfellow
particularily impressing. Bedworth scored first early in the second half through
their own trialist, I think called Jamie Halloway (not sure), before Hinckley
hit back with Jon Stevenson equalising and then Alex Johnson putting Hinckley ahead.
Ben Porter equalised late on for Bedworth with an excellent strike beating Bowles
from a tight angle wide of the pitch. |

Kelly has personal hearing |
|
Leon Kelly attended his personal hearing at the FA today, following his three
sendings off last season and also being reported for verbal abuse by an official
following the final match of the last season. He was handed a further 4 match ban,
but this ban to be suspended and only implemented should he be sent off for elbowing
an opponent again this season. Meaning that he would receive the standard 3 match
ban for the sending off offence plus the 4 match ban added to that. |

Kelly out for two months |
|
Leon Kelly has been handed a 10 match suspension by the league after an incident
at Blyth on the final day of the league last season. Having received his third red
card of the season in the match against Blyth, Kelly was handed a 4 match ban. However
after the game Kelly approached the referee in the car park and a verbal exchange
took place, which the referee subsequently added into his report. Following this,
he was handed a further 6 match ban, totalling a ban of 10 games at the start of
this coming season. This means he will miss the first two months of league action
and only be available for the FA Cup 2nd qualifying game at the end of September.
There will also be an FA hearing on the matter, where Kelly will personally appear
to discuss the incident, with a possibility of further punishment to be handed out
by the FA. |
