Robins Rocked by Hinckley |
Hinckley United returned to winning ways after their recent slump in form with a 0-1
away win at Ilkeston Town, completing a league double over them. It was a bad start
for Hinckley even before the match had kicked off as striker Chukki Eribenne pulled
his hamstring in the warm up, meaning a start for young striker Danny Newton. Newton
and Andy Hall both forced saves from long range shots before the all important goal
of the game came just before half time. Newton crossed into the area to Hall, who
back heeled the ball into the path of Dan Dillon and he blasted the ball into the
net from 12 yards. Despite a number of chances in the second half, Hinckley didn't
add to the lead, and keeper Chris MacKenzie made an important save in the last minute
to preserve the clean sheet, win the points, and propel Hinckley back into third
place in the league.

Jekyll and Hyde performance from Hinckley |
Hinckley United snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as they threw away a 2 goal
lead and gifted Hyde United a league double, losing 3 - 2 at Ewen Fields. Being down
to the bare bones of the squad again, Hinckley started with five across the midfield,
Jack Roberts making only his second start, leaving Chukki Eribenne on his own up
front. The good news was that Connor Franklin was back in the team after his opening
trial match at Lincoln City. It was an excellent first half for Hinckley, creating a
number of opportunities for Eribenne and Roberts, but it would be Eribbene who gave
Hinckley the lead from the penalty spot after half an hour. Andy Gooding was brought
down in the area and Eribenne dispatched the spot kick to score his second league
goal of the season, both from the spot. Gooding himself added the second just before
half time when he headed in a perfect left wing cross from Alex Taylor giving Hinckley
the two goal half time cushion.
It all started to go wrong for Hinckley in the second half. Neil Cartwright, playing
at right back tonight, received a straight red card for a proffesional foul only
10 minutes into the second half and this left Hinckley on the back foot and gave the
initiative to Hyde. They seized that opportunity and got a goal back on 70 minutes
when substitute Scott Mooney scored to make it 1-2. Hyde threw everything at Hinckley
for the last 15 minutes and Neil Tolson scored their equaliser right at the end of the
match. Though it got worse for Hinckley as in stoppage time Tolson scored his second
of the match and Hyde's third, giving them the much needed 3 points.

Oh snow, not again |
|
Hinckley United's match at home to Blyth Spartans fell victim to the sudden snow
of the last two days and had to be postponed as the pitch was unplayable. It meant
that Hinckley dropped to 4th in the league as Alfreton go above us due to their 6-2
win over Farsley. A win for Telford and a draw for Droylsden also mean the play off
places become a little more compact as teams catch up games. |

Dreadful Hinckley slump in shocker |
Hinckley United put in their worst home performance of the season and slumped to
a 0-3 defeat to lowly Solihull Motors. Experienced defender Lee Collins had been
released by the club during the day, so Paul Lister came back into the team at
centre back, and with Chukki Eribenne injured and Carl Heggs unavailable, young
reserve striker Danny Newton would make his first start for the club alongside regular
striker Matt West. As it transpired neither of them would see much of the ball or
get a chance to show what they could do.
In a turgid display of hoof ball, Hinckley completely misjudged their tactics and
the Solihull back line easily coped with long ball, after long ball, after long ball.
Solihull fared no better and their own long ball had no effect for the first half,
resulting in 45 minutes of tedium.
If it was possible, Hinckley got worse as the game wore on. Solihull managed to score
two goals in the opening 15 minutes of the second half, gifted to them with some
woeful defending. On 53 minutes a weak clearance from the Hinckley defence
was deflected back into an open area for unmarked Tim Gould to side foot into an
unguarded net. Then 3 minutes later in a goal mouth melee, there were three attempts
to clear the ball by Hinckley and none worked. The ball was forced goalward and Mackenzie
made the save only for him to parry it onto Alex Price and the rebound found it's
way into the net. With no 'plan B' for Hinckley, amid the huffing and puffing, zero
chances were created. Just as it appeared that the game would now drift to a close,
the Hinckley defence casually lost possession on the left and Jake Edwards ran down
the Solihull right flank to square the ball to Junior English to score Motor's third
and seal the points for Solihull.

Hinckley stall at Motors |
Hinckley United salvaged a point at Vauxhall Motors thanks to a last minute equaliser.
Vauxhall had the best possible start and took the lead in the 9th minute, which they
held for another 80 minutes until Andy Hall scored Hinckley's point saver in the
final moments.

Hinckley steamroller Southport |
Hinckley United won their first game against Southport since the formation of Conf
North, putting four goals past the second place club. 39 year old Carl Heggs was
making his second debut for Hinckley, having signed as a player following the demise
of his managerial role at the defunct King's Lynn, and his football brain and braun
were required in the early stages. Both sides started the game playing a physical
style, and Southport were the better team for the first 15 minutes. Chris MacKenzie
was called upon to make a series of fine saves and Southport will feel unlucky not
to be two up. Hinckley battled away and the physical battle began to turn in their
favour, and a quick double after 20 minutes put them in control. Neil Cartwright was
needlessly fould on the right edge of the area and the free kick was fired in low
to the centre by Andy Hall. A goalmouth melee ensued with 3 players swinging a leg
but none gaining enough contact, until the ball ran free to Lee Collins on the edge
of the goal area who blasted the ball into the roof of the net. Immediately from
the restart, MacKenzie held the ball after Ashley Winn had an effort on target, and
he released the ball quickly as Hinckley broke down the right where Chukki Eribenne
found himself in a wide right role. Eribenne took the ball to the line and crossed
to the far left of the goal where Dan Dillon was running in to score Hinckley's second,
a lead that lasted for half time.
Southport changed their formation at half time bringing on striker Robbie Booth and
putting 3 up front, sacrificng a defender. A period of pressure saw Southport get
a goal back on the hour whne Steve Daly got on the end of a long ball and Connor
Franklin slipped in his tackle allowing Daly to fire a shot into the top left corner.
The Southport pressure continued and MacKenzie made another crucial save, whilst
Booth saw his shot hit the outside of a post. The pressure was released on 65 minutes
after a great run by Eribenne on the right saw him fouled by Alan Moogan, but the
ref waved play on as his stayed on his feet and ran with the ball to the line and
into the area to place a perfect cross to the left of the goal where Andy Gooding
jumped to head Hinckley back into a two goal lead. The points were won 5 minutes later
after a mazey run from Andy Hall took him into the area and 'last man' Matt McGinn
brought him down before he could shoot. McGinn was shown a straight red, and Eribenn
stepped up to take the spot kick, placing the ball into the left corner beyond Tony
McMillan, scoring his first league goal of the season and Hinckley's fourth of the
night. There was still time for Matt West and Danny Newton, both on as a sub, to
respectively place the ball just wide of the post and then curl the ball from the
edge of the area past McMillan but off the corner of the cross bar and over.

Hinckley stick against the Vics |
Hinckley United remained unbeaten at home since August, but had to settle for a point
against Northwich Victoria. Defender Mark Dudley returned to finish his loan from
Derby County, with paul Lister also serving his one match suspension. In a match
devoid of any stand out incidents, it never threatend to burst into life and both
teams seemed happy to go through the motions. Wayne Riley gave Northwich the lead
on 23 minutes when he volleyed in Michael Aspin's cross, from 20 yards out. Hinckley
were level 10 minutes into the second half after Matt West headed on into the path
of Andy Hall on the edge of the area, and Hall ran in on goal and slotted the ball
under Curtis Aspden. Hinckley nearly provided a winning goal when in the final stages
substitute Jarrad Pickering, making his Hinckley United debut having stepped up from
Hinckley Downes, had a powerful snap shot from 15 yards, but Aspden produced an equally
excellent save diving to his left to parry the ball away.

Third Time Unlucky |
|
For the third time, Hinckley United failed to complete their Leicestershire Challenge
Cup match against Barwell, as on this occassion the match was abandoned 5 minutes
into the second half, due to a freezing pitch. Hinckley played with an experimental
line up, which saw Dan Dillon start at right back, Alex Taylor at left back and youngster
Danny Newton on the left midfield. Newton scored his debut goal for Hinckley, taking
the lead early on and looked comfortable up to half time, with Barwell rarely threatening.
The players emerged for the second half and kicked off, but it very quickly became
apparent that the ground was freezing, players could not keep their feet and the
ref had no other option but to stop the game. |
